During the 18th century, steam engines transformed production and anchored the First Industrial Revolution.

The world has moved on since then. Today nothing is as influential as STEAM in shaping the present day and the future.

TeXpo creates opportunities for audiences to develop STEAM skills and contribute towards a digitally enhanced future.

The TeXpo Steam on hackathon which runs from the 31st of July to the 2nd of August 2023 provides participants the opportunity to acquire new skills as they build solutions to real world challenges. The hackathon will run in-person at St. George's College in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Teams are tasked with designing and developing solutions to one of two specified challenges. They will build a physical product, “the solution”, which functionally addresses the challenge. In addition to the functionality criterion, teams are required to use a Raspberry Pi Pico as the ‘brain’ of the solution.

Through the hackathon teams undertake the engineering, business and user experience aspects of product design and development which are required to take a product to market.

Complete entries will be judged according to the adjudication criteria and the entry which scores the highest number of points will be the winner of the hackathon.
